About Us

The West Springfield Crew program (Spartan Crew) is a club sport at West Springfield High School.  The program was started in 1987 by two students with the interest and desire to row and compete with other high schools.  The program today reflects over thirty years of excellence on the water.  The Spartan Crew team is a member of the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association (VASRA).

Spartan Crew is dedicated to providing an opportunity for West Springfield High School students to learn the sport of rowing.  The club fosters a competitive rowing environment and encourages the development of good sportsmanship and the art of teamwork. Our program teaches novices (new rowers) the basics of rowing, conditioning, and teamwork.  Team members build strength and endurance, develop time-management and self-discipline skills, and gain the confidence that comes with being an athlete.  These valuable qualities prepare our student athletes for the challenges of the future.  Our athletes are eligible for Varsity letters, and they follow the same Virginia High School League and WSHS rules as other Varsity sports.

Interested in crew? Please complete our Rower Interest Form to receive emails about the upcoming season.

As a club sport, we receive no financial backing from either West Springfield High School (WSHS) or Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).  Club membership dues pay our coaches and operating expenses. The West Springfield Crew Booster Club (WSCBC) is the support group for the rowing program.  See the “WSCBC and Board” tab for more info.
